The history of the culture center dates back to 1979 when Zygmunt Duczyński founded the “Kana” student theatre company. Today, aside from staging plays, the center also organizes various artistic and educational events.
Kana Theater Center is at św. Piotra i Pawła Square, in the vicinity of the church dedicated to the saints. In the area there are also the Pomeranian Dukes' Castle, the Castle Opera, the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin, The Dialogue Center Przełomy.
In 1979, Zygmunt Duczyński founded the student Kana Theater. Over time, the team became organizationally independent and won more renowned awards, gaining recognition at home and abroad.
Currently, the theater operates as part of the Kana Theater Center. It is made up of a group of people who love art and want to show it to the world. The center is involved in the cultural life of Szczecin and the surrounding area. Apart from theatrical performances, it organizes artistic, educational, and cultural events. Kana's actors collaborate with foreign institutions. They organize many projects to promote culture and art in the modern world. The most famous of them are the International Street Artists Festival "Binders of Culture" and the International Theater Meetings "OKNO". The theater is also a co-organizer of various local events, such as Kontrapunkt, dokumentART and Japan Now.
You can also visit Kana to experience a bit of an artistic life. Kana's Cellar is both a cafe and an art gallery, so you don't have to worry that the repertoire is not about what you are waiting for.
Kana is constantly looking for volunteers, both to co-create a specific event and to cooperate in a long time. This is a great opportunity for everyone who wants to get to know the world of theater from the inside.
