Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The construction of the church began in the year 1268. Originally a wooden temple, it was later reconstructed with bricks and boulders. In 1863, the church was destroyed in a fire and rebuilt in Gothic revival style.

The church is in the south-eastern part of the city, on the right bank of the Oder River, in the Dąbie estate. Near the church, there is the Domus Shopping Center and the PKO bank. The Płonia river flows about 100 meters from the church.

In 1268, Fr. Herman, the parish priest of Damba parish, started building the church. In 1277, however, the patronage over the parish was assumed by Prince Barnim I. 1534 was a turning point for the Catholic Church. The priests of West Pomerania joined the Protestant faith. For four centuries, until 1945, the church was in the hands of the Protestant inhabitants of the city.

The church was originally wooden. However, the city was developing, and therefore the temples had to be rebuilt. It was built again, but of brick, gothic, with three aisles. In 1983, the building almost completely burned down. In 1866, the reconstruction was completed. The church took on a new, neo-Gothic character. The temple was seriously damaged in March 1945. What has been preserved is the tower and the body of the building and an old wooden crucifix from the 18th century and elements from the 19th and 20th centuries inside. In the years 1973-1985, the temple underwent renovation of its external walls and roof, as well as a major renovation of the tower. The interior has been reconstructed in line with the neo-Gothic style.

The church that has survived to this day has a late gothic character.
