We cordially invite all interested parties to a meeting with the author of the book "Lives of St. Otto of Bamberg", Prof. Stanislaw Rosik (University of Wroclaw), a medievalist who has chosen the subject of the conversion of Pomerania as one of the subjects of his research interests.
The book, a new edition of which has just left the printing presses, is devoted to three written sequences of the life of St. Otto of Bamberg (d. 1139), known today as the Apostle of Pomerania. An analysis of the contents of the surviving lives reveals the debate among monastic circles in southern Germany over the phenomenon and pattern of Otto's holiness. Through the vivots, we also get an excellent picture of the societies of Germany, Poland and - the most extensive - Western Pomerania in the 12th century, as well as a lot of valuable, sometimes still relevant, thoughts on the meaning of human life and the condition of the world.
The conversation with the author will be moderated by Dr. Pawel Migdalski (University of Szczecin), historian, since 2021 heading the Pomeranian History Research Team at the US Historical Institute.
