The Museum of Koszalin invites you to the second meeting of the series "At High Noon".
On March 2 in the Hangman's House" (3 Grodzka St.), at the meeting entitled "Koszalin Lands. Stories of regaining and losing", we will lean on the topic of Recovered Lands.
The "Lands" of the title will be a contribution to the discussion of the issues of the settlement of Koszalin and Central Pomerania after 1945, the taming of the "Recovered Lands" by the newly arrived settlers and the "coming together" of the communities of these lands. The topic of cohabitation of settlers and autochthons and the displacement of the German population from these lands will also appear. Photographs depicting postwar Koszalin will be presented during the discussion.
During the meeting there will be a promotion of the book "Lands. Stories of Recovering and Losing," by Karolina Ćwiek-Rogalska, PhD, a cultural studies scholar, anthropologist and bohemian.
"Lands" is a book about roots - roots that have been planted and roots that have been cut off, identities and ghosts of the past that never fully disappear. The author is the granddaughter of settlers, born in the centuries-old border town of Walcz (Deutsch Krone) in Central Pomerania. In the introduction to the book, the author writes: "I try to reconstruct the stories of as many families as possible. The stories of others that will perhaps tell me something about my own. And they will also tell something to readers who are troubled by questions similar to mine."
In the "Recovered Territories," watches were switched to medieval time, setting the Piast myth at the center. Those arriving were promised prosperity and peace. Settlers and settlers on the spot found chaos, red brick and half-timbered buildings, inscriptions in German Gothic. How do you feel at home when all around you is different, foreign, "post-German"?
During the meeting there will be time to ask the author questions, share your own memories and personal stories. There will also be an opportunity to purchase Ms. Karolina's book and receive a dedication from her.
The Dialog Theater from Koszalin is a partner of the event.
Participation in the meeting is free of charge.
