Conference - School of looking. A new look at visual education.

The West Pomeranian Teacher Training Center and the Academy of Art in Szczecin cordially invite you to participate in a nationwide scientific conference entitled "School of looking. A new look at visual education".

Visual education is an integral part of general education. It enables the acquisition of critical thinking competence based on looking at the reality around us - possible to reconstruct with the help of images. It is also the improvement of the ability to seek and formulate answers to the question, what do we see: in the process of learning (learning) at school, but also in public spaces and social relations? Moreover, it is an area for developing students' competence in reading the meanings of images available in the media, including the Internet, and in marketing, advertising or political campaigns. Thus, visual education is part of an important area for exposing image manipulation, influencing audiences and drawing attention to marginalized groups.

The subject of reflection and debate we propose to make:
- contemporary approaches to visual education,
- visual education in the context of traditional and modern art,
- the development of critical thinking towards the culture of the image,
- the role of new media in didactic processes and building digital competence,
- the role of visuality in building social and cultural identity,
- analysis of images as a method of forming cultural and aesthetic consciousness,
- the impact of new technologies on the way we see and learn,
- visual creativity as a key competence of the future,
- social inclusion through art and visual media,
- street art as a form of public pedagogy.

The event includes the opening of an exhibition of works by students of the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Art in Szczecin and an author's meeting around the book Oko w oko z muralem, edited by Dr. Natalia Cybort-Zioło and Mateusz Lipko.

The Scientific Committee includes Prof. Maria Czerepaniak-Walczak, PhD, Prof. Justyna Machnicka, AS, Dr. Slawomir Iwasiów, Dr. Piotr Depta-Kleśta, Dr. Colette Szczepaniak, Dr. Tomasz Świtalski.
