EIGHTY YEARS AGO IN POLISH SZCZECIN vernissage May 8 (Thursday), 2:00 pm Exhibition until August 3 Outdoor exhibition Castle terraces On May 8, 1945, the act of unconditional surrender of the Third German Reich came into force. Szczecin, captured by the Soviet Army, becomes a point of conflict both politically and administratively, as well as among the population living there. Finally, on July 5, 1945. Piotr Zaremba takes over administration of the city. Although this event is a clear caesura in the history of Szczecin, it is not the end of problems.
The exhibition tells the story of the difficult beginnings of the first administrators and residents of Polish Szczecin. These stories are complemented by a collection of post-war photographs of Szczecin and West Pomerania, showing the scale of the region's destruction, the living conditions of the first settlers, as well as their struggles and involvement in rebuilding the destroyed city.
