11th Markiewicz Lecture: Prof. Piotr Śliwiński – War and Truth (in Contemporary Poetry)

We cordially invite you to participate in this year's lecture from the series "Cross-sections and Approaches. Markiewicz Lectures," entitled "War and Truth (in Contemporary Poetry)," which will be given by Prof. Piotr Śliwiński. The annual commemoration of the eminent Polish language scholar and bibliophile Prof. H. Markiewicz at the Pomeranian Library is connected with the inclusion of the researcher's academic library, comprising approximately 40,000 volumes, in the institution's collection. In addition to the book collection, the purchased collection also includes the professor's handwritten archives and correspondence. Henryk Markiewicz died on October 31, 2013, in Krakow, and in 2014, to commemorate him, one of the rooms of the Literary Museum of the Pomeranian Library was named after him and a series of "Markiewicz" lectures was initiated. Speakers in the series have included Prof. Andrzej Mencwel (University of Warsaw), Prof. Małgorzata Książek-Czermińska (University of Gdańsk), Prof. Anna Legeżyńska (Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań), Prof. Anna Łebkowska (Jagiellonian University), Prof. Inga Iwasiów (University of Szczecin), Prof. Andrzej Romanowski (Jagiellonian University), and other scholars. The next "Markiewicz Lecture" will be given by Prof. Piotr Śliwiński, PhD, literary scholar, literary critic, and researcher of contemporary Polish poetry, researcher at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The topic proposed by this year's speaker refers to the broad interests and great achievements of Prof. Henryk Markiewicz. The issue of truth in literature was close to the Professor's heart, and he kept his war experiences in his memory and certain home rituals until the end of his life.
