A film about a painter who fell in love with Międzyzdroje

The Pomeranian Library and the ART – PROMOTION – EDUCATION Association invite you to a screening of the documentary film "Count Zedtwitz's Little Homeland" and a discussion with its creators. The film tells the story of the life and work of Eryk von Zedtwitz, a diplomat, journalist, and marine painter who moved with his entire family from Munich in 1926 and settled in the small seaside fishing village of Misdroy, which became Międzyzdroje after 1945. He lived and worked here for 39 years. He received Polish citizenship. Surrounded by the universal respect and affection of the locals, he learned Polish and painted the Baltic Sea. Everyone considered him "their" painter. He lived very modestly, supporting his wife and three children by painting and selling his paintings, of which he painted over 2,000. It was considered good form among the residents of Świnoujście and Międzyzdroje to purchase a painting by Zedtwitz and hang it in the living room. The painter died in 1965 and, in accordance with his will, was buried in the cemetery in Międzyzdroje. The screenplay for the film, based on texts by Julianna Rogowska, was written by Helena Kwiatkowska, who is also responsible for its production. The narrator telling the story of Eryk von Zedtwitz is Michał Dębowski (Szczecin conservator of monuments). Biographical consultation was provided by Julianna Rogowska and Edda Gutsche, author of an album on the life and work of Pomeranian painters of the 19th and 20th centuries. Dr. Małgorzata Gwiazdowska served as the art history consultant. Olga Dąbkiewicz provided costume design consultation, assisted by Małgorzata Zakrzewska, who was responsible for the makeup of the actors and extras.
