Requiem by W.A. Mozart
Requiem in D minor, KV 626, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is one of the most moving works of classical music, written for a funeral mass. The composition was written in 1791, during the last months of Mozart's life, and has been shrouded in mystery from the very beginning – the composer did not manage to finish it, and it was completed by his student Franz Xaver Süssmayr.
Mozart's Requiem combines deep spirituality with the drama of opera music. The work touches on the themes of life, death, and the hope for eternal life, using contrasting moods – from fragments full of horror and grief to quiet, reflective choral and solo parts.
Both the choral and solo parts stand out in the work: soprano, alto, tenor, and bass, which, combined with the symphony orchestra, create an extremely emotional, poignant atmosphere. The popularity of the Requiem stems not only from its masterful composition, but also from its universal message – it deeply moves listeners regardless of the era.
Mozart's Requiem is one of the most frequently performed oratorios in the world today, and its power lies in its ability to move listeners.
