The Wałcz Cultural Center, as part of the "Splot Kultur – Wałcz Multicultural Days" event, also invites you to a folk dance workshop with HrayBery   April 11, Saturday, 5:30 p.m., WCK Club Room /free admission, registration required: info@wckwalcz.pl or 512 207 877/   The folk dance workshop with the HrayBery ensemble is an encounter with the living tradition of the Polish-Ukrainian borderlands from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It was to this very music that people celebrated in taverns, inns, and the squares of Galician towns and shtetls—Rusyns/Ukrainians, Poles, Jews, Roma, and traveling merchants danced together. During the workshops, participants will learn the basics of dances characteristic of this region. The program will include, among others, kozaks and kozachkas, kolomyikas, mazurkas, polkas, and ciurilas. Step by step, with an emphasis on rhythm, freedom of movement, and the shared experience of dance, we will discover how people danced in the past. HrayBery’s music, performed on traditional instruments that have been part of this culture for centuries, has a raw, energetic sound and distinct, pulsating rhythms. It is this music that will set the pace and character of the workshop—naturally drawing participants into dancing together. The event will have an open, inclusive format—regardless of age or experience. Not only will you learn the steps, but you’ll also experience the atmosphere of old-time dance parties and discover how music and dance can bring people together across all divides.   After the workshop, at 7:00 p.m., we invite you to a concert by HrayBery followed by a dance party.
