Search and rescue exercises

The Youth Water Rescue Team (MDRW) is a group of young people united by a passion for rescue work. As part of the team’s meetings, regular training sessions are held to engage children and teenagers and raise their awareness of safety. During the project, our partners from the Szczecin Volunteer Fire Department will lead fire safety and search-and-rescue training sessions, while colleagues from the Artmed Rescue Association will conduct workshops on advanced first aid (KPP) and prepare response scenarios, primarily by realistically portraying victims. In return, we will offer water-based activities. We will practice navigation, chart reading, and maneuvering rescue boats. The goal of the project is to conduct practical exercises in search and rescue as well as firefighting operations. During the search for victims on Wielka Kępa Island and in Szczecin’s waterways (including using drones), all trash and waste left behind by tourists will be collected. These activities will also contribute to cleaning up the natural environment and raise the young participants’ awareness of ecology. The beneficiaries of the project will be members of MDRW, Artmed rescuers, and members of the Volunteer Fire Department (OSP). Their training will later translate into increased safety for people enjoying water activities. Interest in water tourism is growing, which means there are more and more people on the water, and this translates into an increase in the number of rescue operations. An increasing percentage of rescue operations in our organization involve medical emergencies. Therefore, it is very important to familiarize and train young rescuers on how to handle injured or trauma patients. We plan to conduct these activities at water bodies in the City of Szczecin and at the Szczecin WOPR base.
