On Friday, May 8, we invite you to the opening of an exhibition dedicated to Otto Graff, during which art historian Dr. Ewa Gwiazdowska will present a profile of the artist and his work. The exhibition will be on view through May 31.
The exhibition features paintings, prints, and drawings by Otto Graff (1915–1997), a German artist from Widuchowa, whose work was shaped by the landscape of his native Pomerania. Otto Graff, a gardener by trade, simultaneously pursued his artistic interests. After World War II, he returned to painting, studying from 1950 at the Volkshochschule in Cologne (Heiner Stremmel’s studio), where he perfected his skills in drawing and nude painting in particular. In his work, he employed various techniques, particularly watercolor, contour drawing, and woodcut, and less frequently oil painting and pastel. His expressive, color-saturated compositions are inspired by nature and the human figure. Otto Graff’s works have been exhibited numerous times in Germany and other countries (including Moresnet 1993, Cologne 2005, and Schwedt 2009), and the artist’s body of work remains an important testament to his sensitivity and imagination.
