The Pomeranian Library and the Polish Historical Society – Szczecin Branch invite you to the next event in the #ZoomNaHistorię series.
Do medieval chroniclers merely report facts—or do they imbue the events they describe with deeper meaning?
We invite you to a lecture by Prof. Marian Dygo, Ph.D., titled “Prince Mieszko III the Old and Princely Law in the Light of Master Wincenty Kadłubek’s Polish Chronicle,” dedicated to the issue of power, law, and morality in 12th-century Poland.
The lecture draws on the recently published book “Mesco Senex: A Contribution to the Interpretation of Master Wincenty’s Polish Chronicle,” in which the author reinterprets one of the most important passages of Kadłubek’s chronicle. He proposes reading the medieval text not as a simple record of events, but as a thoughtful work in which history serves as a reflection on power, law, and morality. Marian Dygo – Prof. Dr. hab., medieval historian, retired faculty member of the University of Warsaw.
