Are there really mythical creatures living along the Oder River? Who was Viadrus? And are mermaids found only in the Vistula River? You’ll find the answers to these questions during the “Cycling Through the Legends of the Oder River” tour, organized by the Cedynia Cycling Club in collaboration with Konrad Hamkało—author of the book “In the Land of Gods and Mermaids: Legends of the Odra River Floodplains.” The event will take place on Sunday, May 17. The start is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. from the Regional Museum in Cedynia. Participants will set off on a roughly 50-kilometer route through the Odra River Floodplains—places where local history and ancient legends continue to spark the imagination of residents and tourists alike. The ride is designed as a family-friendly cycling tour at a leisurely pace. Along the way, there will be stops and stories about ancient beliefs, spirits of the Odra River, and regional legends. Konrad Hamkało has been interested in the history, folklore, and legends of the Odra River Floodplains for years. This passion resulted in the book “In the Land of Gods and Mermaids,” dedicated to the region’s ancient tales, beliefs, and mysteries. The tour will also serve as an opportunity to celebrate the first anniversary of the book’s publication; attendees will be able to purchase a signed and dedicated copy and speak with the author. The event is free and open to everyone interested. The organizers remind participants that a helmet is mandatory, as well as a bike in good working order, provisions for the ride, and weather-appropriate clothing. Registration is open until Saturday, May 16, by calling +48 796 791 224.
