“From White to Black: Wedding and Mourning Attire in the 19th and 20th Centuries” is a temporary exhibition featuring items from the collection of the Museum of the History of Costume in Poznań, which we will soon be presenting at the Museum of the Wałcz Region.
Clothing serves not only a utilitarian function, protecting the body, but also a social one, acting as a form of expression and communication. The rules governing how one dresses dictate the choice of a specific outfit in certain situations—this is most evident in the case of weddings and mourning. Wedding and mourning attire, like any other, is subject to fashion and changes over time. What did they look like in the 19th and 20th centuries? What colors and fabrics were required for those in mourning? What were the wedding trends of the past? These and many other questions regarding the history of wedding and mourning attire will be answered by the temporary exhibition “From White to Black: Wedding and Mourning Attire in the 19th and 20th Centuries,” prepared in collaboration with the Museum of the History of Costume in Poznań.
We invite you to the exhibition opening on June 14, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at the Wałcz Region Museum (Wałcz, 14 Pocztowa St.).
Admission to the opening is free.
The exhibition will be open from June 14, 2026, to October 18, 2026, during the Museum of the Wałcz Region’s regular opening hours. Tickets are priced according to the museum’s price list.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a cultural and educational program. Details can be found under the “Offer” tab > “Museum Lessons” and “News.”
