The “Start of Summer” Sports Festival is an open sports event organized for the second time by the “START” Sports Club for People with Disabilities in Szczecin. The event will take place on June 27, 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Athletics Stadium located at 20 Litewska Street in Szczecin. The competitions will be adapted for people of various ages and with different types of disabilities. The sports competitions prepared for participants include: • basketball shooting • air gun shooting • boccia tournament • 100-meter dash • rowing ergometer competition (timed) • wheelchair and handbike race • shot put • Frisbee Participation in the competitions is a great way to encourage active leisure, brings together all the athletes of our club along with their coaches, and motivates them to adopt a healthier lifestyle and take an interest in the health benefits of recreational sports. Additionally, the chance to win interesting prizes for finishing in the top three in each event—separately for women and men—further motivates participants to take part in the competitions, and every event participant will receive a commemorative gift. The main goal of the event is to increase physical activity among people with disabilities. Joint efforts and competition bring people closer together and allow for the formation of closer friendships. The primary outcome of this inclusive event will be the gradual overcoming of social isolation, psychological and physical barriers, and a shift in self-perception as a person with a disability. Improving athletic training and increasing physical activity will significantly contribute to a better quality of life and can serve as a driving force encouraging a shift toward a healthier lifestyle. Thus, they provide an incentive to develop the habit of consistently maintaining fitness levels and improving health. It should be emphasized that organizing such events for people with disabilities helps promote the West Pomeranian region and the City of Szczecin as a place that is friendly to people with disabilities, tolerant, and open to their concerns.
