Yes, yes… In July 2026, the Maestro and his beloved Johann Strauss Orchestra will once again perform at the Vrijthof, the famous square in this charming medieval town. The King of the Waltz and his guests will perform for the 20th time for the tens of thousands of music lovers who flock here every year from all over the world. Fortunately, this wonderful summer evening will be broadcast to movie theaters around the world this fall. So you can look forward to a show filled with enchanting waltzes and marches by Johann Strauss Sr. and Johann Strauss Jr., as well as songs from famous musicals like “My Fair Lady” and “Les Misérables,” along with other hits, such as Ennio Morricone’s “Gabriel’s Oboe” from the film “The Mission.” In addition to the Platinum Tenors and internationally renowned sopranos, the concert will also feature stars who have never before performed at the Vrijthof. It’s going to be a spectacular anniversary!
The new show, titled “Long Live Maastricht!”, is a joyful tribute to the Maestro’s hometown, where it all began. Twenty years ago, André Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra performed at the Vrijthof for the first time. The medieval square was transformed into a glittering open-air ballroom. The audience enjoyed the first concert of its kind, all under a summer sky studded with twinkling stars. The success was unprecedented, especially since the entire event was broadcast to movie theaters. Now, “The Blue Danube Waltz” and “The Radetzky March” will be performed for audiences around the world for the twentieth time.
“I am incredibly excited about this anniversary. This July, we will perform our summer concert in Maastricht for the 20th time,” says André Rieu. “I hope that the unique atmosphere of the Vrijthof, the oldest square in the Netherlands, will once again touch the hearts and souls of all the audience members. It’s fantastic that this concert will also be shown in movie theaters around the world, including in Poland, this fall. I’m convinced that you’ll enjoy it just as much as I and my orchestra do. Long live Maastricht!”
