"New Zealand from the Inside: In the World of the Māori and the Kiwis" — a talk with Patrycja Wojkowska as part of the "Horyzontyści" series.

We invite you to the next event in the Maritime Science Center’s new series—HORIZONS. In 2023, Patrycja Wojkowska set off alone for New Zealand as part of the Work and Holiday program. She spent several months there living with a New Zealand family, traveling, and getting to know the country’s residents. During the event, she’ll talk about Māori culture, cultural differences, and stereotypes. She’ll explain what pounamu is—a stone important to the Māori that she received during her trip. She’ll also talk about a tattoo done by a Māori artist and what it meant. Her story will include solo expeditions, survival on volcanic slopes, and situations where she had to fend for herself far from home. She’ll play the tank drums—music accompanied her during her travels and provided many opportunities to meet New Zealanders. The event will be complemented by photographs and stories from the book *Pākehā: Where No One Was Waiting*.
