This is the second installment of the program we’ve been performing for several seasons. A different set of pieces, but the same journey: from a Viennese salon to the Balkans. If you didn’t attend the first part, you’re not missing out on anything.
We’ve kept the evening’s structure the same, because it worked well. First, Vienna: waltzes, polkas, and operetta arias. In the second part, the orchestra sets off with its caravan through Hungary, the Balkans, Spain, and Italy, and the czardas that previously played in the background now take center stage.
The repertoire has changed. The violin has been given more prominence: Maryjan Lomaha plays paraphrases from Roba Lakatosa’s repertoire and arrangements by Artur Banaszkiewicz, written specifically for this ensemble.
The singers are Agata Sava, a mezzo-soprano with an operatic range, and Nazar Tatsyshyn, a tenor in the tradition of Italian bel canto, who appears in this program as a special guest. Classical ballet soloists perform the dances.
On stage:
- The Royal Orchestra, conducted by Woytek Mrozek
- Maryjan Lomaha, violin. He has performed at venues including the Berlin Philharmonic and the Concertgebouw
- Agata Sava, mezzo-soprano. An opera soloist in Prague, she has sung at Chicago Philharmonic Hall and the National Philharmonic in Warsaw
- Nazar Tatsyshyn, tenor with the Budapest State Opera
- classical ballet soloists
The program features music by Strauss, Lehár, Kálmán, Kreisler, Brahms, Bizet, and Monti.
