The von Plotz Family Palace

The Stuchów estate belonged to the von Plotz family from the 14th century onward. Between 1880 and 1888, Leo von Plotz built a Neo-Renaissance mansion on the site of an older structure. Its design was modeled after the royal palace in Potsdam. The von Plotz family owned the palace until 1942. At that time, the last heir, Henryk von Plotz, was removed by the Reich authorities. After the war, the palace was seized by Soviet troops, who severely damaged it. In the 1950s, the palace served as the headquarters of a state-owned farm (PGR). Later, it functioned as a summer camp, and subsequently a primary school was established there, which remains housed in the palace to this day.

This eclectic palace is a massive, brick, two-story, two-winged structure. It has a total area of 2,190^{square meters}. An octagonal tower topped with a Neo-Baroque cupola rises above the structure. Similar cupolas adorn the smaller towers on the building’s facade. The palace’s south wing is covered by a gable roof, while the main body of the building is covered by a hipped roof. The facade is distinguished by windows of various shapes with ornate frames. The building is embellished by projections on each facade, and the von Plotz family coat of arms is located at the palace entrance. The interior of the building has partially retained its original opulent decor. Visitors can see the original fireplaces and tiled stoves, as well as stucco decorations on the walls and ceiling. The wooden staircase with its painted ceiling makes a particularly impressive sight. In 2006, the property underwent a comprehensive renovation. The palace is surrounded by one of the largest parks in the region, covering an area of 41 hectares. In the park, visitors can admire trees that are over a century old.

Currently, the palace houses an elementary school and can be visited during school hours. Entry to the building is by arrangement with the school staff.
