The building was constructed between 1896 and 1900 in the Neo-Gothic style. It was built of red brick. The building is characterized by a meticulously finished main facade. The facade is adorned with profiled cornices, a crowning frieze, black glazed decorative elements, and projections flanking the main entrances. The building’s windows are pointed-arch. The city’s coats of arms are displayed between the windows. Before the building was constructed, the site had previously been occupied by barracks and ramparts. During World War II, the building sustained significant damage. After its restoration in 1953, a public elementary school was established there. In later years, it housed a complex of elementary schools, and for a time, the building served as the County Police Headquarters. Since 1999, the building has housed the Polish Nobel Laureates Middle School No. 1 with Inclusive Classes. Approximately 300 students attend the junior high school. Across from the school building stands a beautiful grove of old trees.
