The obelisk, consisting of a stone block set on a pedestal made of smaller stones, commemorates Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, an outstanding educator and gymnastics theorist. It was erected in 1928, on the 150th anniversary of his birth. The boulder was donated by Ulrich Borcke. The monument was part of a pre-war amusement park.
Today, the start and finish of the Environmental Education Trail, as well as the starting points for cycling, walking, and Nordic walking trails, are located near the monument.
