A stone obelisk located in a forest near Swobnica was erected to commemorate the German foresters who died during World War I. The names and dates of death are carved on the four stones surrounding the obelisk: Hermann Knofel (June 4, 1918), Hubert Kruger (May 5, 1917), Gerhard Popplow (November 17, 1917), Hans Popplow (October 9, 1917). They were employees of the Swobodnica Forest District. On the plaque at the front of the monument, there is also a German inscription: “In honor of their fallen. Dedicated by the forestry officials of the Wildenbruch Forest District.” The monument takes the form of a stone mound made of large oval stones. Carved into the highest boulder is the Cross of Saint Hubert with a wreath of deer antlers. The monument is now forgotten, overgrown with moss and ferns.
