The Franciscans have been present in Darłówko since 1975. They wanted to give residents and tourists the opportunity to attend Sunday Masses right in Darłówko (the tourist part of Darłowo), without having to travel, for example, to St. Mary’s Church in Darłowo, located 2 km from this location. A house was purchased, where the first friar took up residence; later, three friars lived there. They converted one of the outbuildings into a catechism room and a chapel. The first Mass was celebrated in 1979. By decree of the Bishop of Koszalin, the monastery was established in Darłówko on February 17, 1981, and a vicariate dedicated to St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe was also established there. A year later, the vicariate was renamed an independent parish. The cornerstone for the new church and monastery was consecrated on June 24, 1989. Bishop Ignacy Jeż consecrated the church and monastery on June 17, 1993. Currently, the monastic community consists of four brothers. The brothers lead retreat ministries, organize days of reflection, and conduct Advent and Lent retreats.
