Sports Hall of Fame

The Sports Stars Walk was established in 2013 as part of the project “Tourist Development of the Raduń Lake Waterfront in Wałcz.” It was one of the city’s initiatives marking the 710th anniversary of the town’s incorporation. While strolling along the avenue, visitors can not only view the metal plaques embedded in the sidewalk—each dedicated to a different athlete—but also read information about the sports stars on the panels placed along the edge of the avenue. The highlight of the Avenue of Sports Stars is a large circle made of colorful cobblestones, within which a six-pointed star featuring the city’s coat of arms is inscribed. An inscription runs around the circle: Wałecka Avenue of Sports Stars. Among the athletes honored with their own plaques are, among others: Winand Osiński, Jan Mulak, Alojzy Graj, Zdzisław Krzyszkowiak, Jerzy Chromik, Stanisław Ożóg, Kazimierz Zimny, Marian Jochman, Witold Baran, Zbigniew Makomaski, Zbigniew Orywał, Lech Boguszewski, Stanisław Lewandowski, Marian Matłoka, and many other famous athletes who were born or trained in Wałcz.
