It is an area of habitat protection, the main purpose of which is to protect habitats of various species of fauna and flora, which are protected or significant for the ecosystem of the region. The entire surface area is 20 755.9 ha.
The area is divided into two smaller areas, which constitute separate pillars of the protective structure. The first one is “Źródliskowa Dolina Płoni” [Płonia Headwaters Valley], and the other one is “Basen Pra-Miewie" [Pra-Miewie Pool].
The first area is covered with deciduous forests, beech forests and mixed forests growing on sandy hills. The substrate of the lower zones is wet and it consists of peat which favours the development of exceptional and rare plants.
The second area is a typical plan with very fertile soil. There are many common plants, but also protected species. The most popular type of forest is mixed forest.
There are habitats of the following:
mountain herbs
thermophilic oak woods
riparian forests with willows, poplars, alder and ash
various others included in the directive regarding habitats.
The area is easily accessible for tourists. The road network is developed between larger towns. By car you need to drive towards Szczecin or Stargard Szczeciński. You can also get there by train or local public transport.
The area is exceptionally rich in paths and touristic trails. They pass the most important and interesting points and they provide many options: walking, cycling or by horse. Five walking trails and 6 trails created especially for enthusiasts of Nordic walking go through Barlinek. There are also 3 cycling trails. The situation is similar in Pyrzyce – 4 cycling trails at different difficulty levels. In Stargard you can chose 7 cycling trails and 5 walking trails. All the trails present extraordinary advantages of the area, uniqueness of local nature and encourage further explorations.
Miedwie Lake – the central point of the area – provides many opportunities to relax and recreation. There is a beach with a campsite by the lake.
Within the protected area there are forest reserves and Barlinek-Gorzów Landscape Park with a separate protection plan and touristic attractions.
