The museum presents the history of virology and Friedrich Loeffler complementing the exhibition that can be found in the Loeffler house. Furthermore it deals with the evolution of epidemics over the past centuries. It displays the research history on the island as well as the life and work of the people of Riems and Riemserort from 1910 to 2000 and offers an insight into the multitude of appliances used in veterinary medicine and laboratory work. The development since 1990 has its own subarea. Since the for profit part of the institute was divested, because it wasn’t allowed to be part of a state institution, the Riemser Tierazneimittel GmbH (Riemserort) was founded. The company’s history up until the present RIEMSER Pharma GmbH and the IDT Biologika can be seen on large displays across the museum.
The exhibition can be visited on the first and third Wednesday of every month between 1 and 4:30 p.m. Group tours have to be registered in advance. Tel.: 038351-71102
