A tourist attraction in the Nossentiner-Schwinzer Heide Nature Park is the Moorochse observation tower on the northern shore of Lake Plau. "Moorochse" is the popular name for the great bittern, whose males make a muffled call from the reeds in spring. It sounds like the bellowing of an ox. From the tower, you get a very special view of Lake Plau and the former peat bogs. In addition to the kingfisher and various duck species, with a bit of luck you may also spot white-tailed eagles or the secretive otter.
