On the southern edge of Feldberg, a hiking trail leads to the Rosenberge. A wooden observation tower has been erected there, from which you can enjoy the view over the largest village in the lake district. At 145.8 above sea level, the Rosenberge are one of the highest points in the terminal moraine landscape, which was shaped by the last great ice age, the Weichselian glaciation. In the area around Feldberg - including the Rosenberge - rocks transported by the ice accumulated on a massive scale. However, the so-called block packs were commercially exploited by a gravel works in the 20th century and thus largely removed. Nowadays, however, such special landscapes are protected, which is why the removal of boulders over one meter in length is prohibited.
