The Bakelberg is surrounded by meadows and fields between the steep bank and the district of Niehagen. At a height of 17.9 m, it is the highest elevation on Fischland and offers a fantastic panoramic view of the Baltic Sea and Bodden.
From 2017 to the end of 2020, the Ahrenshoop waymarker "Schreitender Paul Müller-Kaempff" by artist Moritz Götze was enthroned on the Bakelberg to mark the 125th anniversary of the Ahrenshoop artists' colony. A smaller version of the figure now commemorates the founder of the Ahrenshoop artists' colony on the meadow in front of the old school.
