On hikes across the Burgwallinsel, you can discover rare plants such as the earth star, a mushroom that is not actually native to this region, the black mullein or the rose mallow. However, Lake Teterow and its island are a paradise for ornithologists. One of the oldest nature reserves in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the "Binsenbrink" nature reserve, is located on the shores of the lake. The nature reserve, which is part of the "Mecklenburg Switzerland" landscape conservation area, also belongs to the Mecklenburg Switzerland, Recknitz and Trebel valleys EU bird sanctuary. A total of 125 bird species have been observed so far, 64 of which are breeding birds, including bluethroat, reed warbler and whinchat, crested and lesser scaup, mallard and gadwall, reed warbler, great tit, great reed warbler... From the observation tower, you have a wide view over Lake Teterow and the bird species found here.
