Construction of the Borowo hydroelectric power plant began in 1916. It was commissioned on January 27, 1918. A watermill likely operated here earlier. The facility was built on the site of the former estate of Kurt von Klitzing of Suchów. The main structure of the power plant is a dam. Ahead of the dam, a canal was built connecting Lakes Zły Łęg, Strunowo, and Mielno, which serve as reservoirs for the power plant. The length of the new Drava riverbed was shortened, thereby doubling the water flow through the plant’s turbines. The average difference in water levels is 8.6 m, which allowed for the installation of two turbines, each with a capacity of 550 kW. These are two identical Francis-type turbines, driven by horizontal shafts manufactured by J.M. Voith of Heideheim. They operate with generators from Siemens–Schuckert. These original power generation units, now nearly a century old, are still in operation today.
