The development of regional fishing in Sassnitz over the last 150 years, the ferry connections to Sweden and Lithuania and the ports of Sassnitz and Mukran are the focal points of the Sassnitz fishing and port museum in the island town. These are vividly documented with the help of port models, among other things. The highlight of the exhibits, however, is the walk-on museum ship Havel in front of the museum, a steel cutter measuring 26.5 meters and the only one of the 50 cutters once used for fishing in Sassnitz to have been preserved. Once a month, so-called "storm talks" are held in keeping with an old fishing tradition. They date back to the gatherings of the fishermen when a storm at sea prevented them from setting sail and they spun yarns together instead. At today's storm talks, which also take place in good weather, interested parties are informed about topics such as fishing and the history of the town.
