The hansa town is located in the heart of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at the confluence of Peene, Trebel und Tollense. Because of the proven membership of Demmin in the medieval Hansa from 1283 to 1615 the city joined the Hanseatic League of the modern era in 1992. Since 1994 it proudly bears the additional name ‘Hansestadt’.
Regardless of whether would like to bike, hike, bath or enjoy the culture, the central location offers a lot of possibilities for adventurous day tours. Travel back to the medieval times on the fisher’s island in the ‘Hanseviertel’. Here you learn things to know around the Hansa and old craftmanships are presented. The rivers are ideal for water sports. Refreshment and fun in the water is offered by the ‘Naturerlebnisbad’.
Worth seeing are the rebuilt townhall, the St. Bartholomaei Church, the catholic Parish Church ‘Maria Rosenkranzkönigin’, the ‘Luisentor’ with its ‘Pulverturm’, remains of the city walls, the old Castle Ruin ‘Haus Demmin’, the Ulanen memorial and more.
Along our city trails signs hint particularly historical buildings and places in Demmin. City information at the train station: Information - publication - advice, conveyance & booking of accommodations, advance ticket sales, information material, information about cultural events and more.
