A former Soviet base for medium- and long-range missile forces near the village of Brzeźnica is one of many mysterious places that can be found in the vicinity of Borne Sulinowo. The complex was built in the late 1960s and early 1970s, after the conclusion of the maneuvers conducted as part of Operation “Wisła.” The base’s existence was kept strictly secret, and the area was fenced off and heavily guarded. Today, the site is open to tourists, but no infrastructure remains of the base except for the warehouses, including “Facility 3002,” one of three depots in Poland for so-called “special ammunition”—that is, the nuclear warheads of the Soviet Army’s Northern Group of Forces.
The full appearance of the facility can be admired at the Cold War Museum, located in the preserved “Facility 3001” near Białogard.
