The Old Town of Recz has retained the oval urban layout characteristic of medieval towns. The Market Square is located at the center of the Old Town. Fragments of the defensive walls, which mark the boundaries of the Old Town, have survived in Recz to this day. In addition to the defensive walls, Recz features two medieval towers—the Choszczeńska Tower and the Drawieńska Tower. The latter stands 15 meters tall and currently serves as an observation tower from which visitors can admire the Old Town.
While exploring the old town, be sure to visit the Church of Christ the King. It is a Gothic structure dating from the 14th century. Other notable landmarks in the old town include a mid-19th-century townhouse located at 1 Rynek Street and the organist’s house on Ratuszowa Street.
During World War II, 70% of the Old Town in Recz was destroyed. A large part of the town has since been rebuilt.
