The Museum of the History of Kamień Pomorski Land in Kamień Pomorski is a local government institution, whose current headquarters is a building completed in 2015, located in the so-called Dominican Quarter at 34 Adam Mickiewicz Street, and, as of 2021, the von Kleist manor house at 4 Cathedral Square. In 2014, the European Physical Society recognized the manor house as a site of particular importance for the development of physics and electrostatics in the world, granting it EPS-Historic Site status.
The museum collects and presents collections from prehistory to the present day, including Bronze Age treasures from the vicinity of Kamień Pomorski and the Island of Wolin, as well as relics discovered on the site, such as a medieval papal bull, a shell of St. James. Jacob's shell dating to the late Middle Ages, a gold ducat from the Netherlands and a bone handle of a Viking knife made in the Borre style.
The museum's biggest attraction is an interactive permanent exhibition dedicated to Ewald Georg von Kleist, creator of the world's first electric capacitor. This exhibition is presented both in the museum's main building and in the renovated mansion where the scientist lived. The exhibition is interdisciplinary, combining history with physics and education. Information at the exhibition is available in three languages: Polish, English and German. The exhibition also has a special educational path for the disabled, such as descriptions in Braill, LCD screen video guides for the visually impaired, and sign translations for the hearing impaired using QR codes.
The museum is open Monday through Saturday:
- In season: 10.00 - 17.00
- Out of season: 10.00 - 16.00
