The Federal Archive/Archive of the Stasi (Berlin, Neubrandenburg), the University of Szczecin and the Książnica Pomorska are pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition "Learn Polish!" Solidarity, the GDR and the Stasi / "Lernt Polnisch!" Solidarność, die DDR und die Stasi, and a Polish-German discussion featuring Kinga Hartmann, Helga Hirsch, Wolfgang Templin, Kazimierz Wóycicki and Monika Stefanek.

The opening will be held in the presence of Mrs. Cornelia Pieper, Consul General of Germany in Gdansk, and Mrs. Irena Stróżyńska, Honorary Consul of Germany in Szczecin.

The actions of Poles against the communist dictatorship became a hope for political change for the activists of the East German opposition, as well as for many East German citizens. The title of the exhibition, "Lernt Polnisch" ("Learn Polish"), was inspired by the slogan that opposition activist and artist Thomas Kretschmer printed on cards and textiles in 1981, urging people to support Poles in their quest for freedom, and to model themselves on the Polish social movement and trade union Solidarity. The occasion for the exhibition is the 35th anniversary this year of Poland's political transition, crowned by the first free parliamentary elections in June 1989. These events contributed to the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989, the overthrow of communism, the reunification of Germany and finally Europe.

The exhibition was prepared by the Federal Archives/ Stasi Archives/ Bundesarchiv/Stasi-Unterlagen-Archiv in Berlin.

The exhibition can be viewed from 19.09.-17.12.2024 in the halls of the building on Dworcowa Street.

HONORARY PATRONAGE: Paul Ziemiak (CDU) - Chairman of the Polish-German parliamentary group in the Bundestag.
