Rottenness - a band of Krakow-based poet Marcin Świetlicki and Sopot-based pianist Michał Wandzilak. They've invited some not-so-young around-town jazzmen to join them: saxophonist Michal Ciesielski and trumpeter Dawid Lipka, double bassist Maciej Sadowski and drummer Tomasz Kopr. The lineup has also been fueled since time immemorial by crime fiction author, karateka, chess player, anthroplogist Dr., Professor at SWPS University Mariusz Czubaj on heroic saxophone.


Rottenness was hatched in 2015 by a moribund one-off band called Jazztliki playing pseudo-jazz covers of the biggest hits by the band Świetliki. The current musical trajectory of Rottenness could be described as post-post-ironic-post-wave-postyass. Ansamble boldly draws on the best of Pomeranian and Krakow musical traditions.


In May 2017, Marcin Świetlicki's two-disc audiobook entitled Drobna zmiana (a5 Publishing House) was released, with music provided by Rottenness.



The band's second album, titled Siedmiościan, was released by the Tymoteusz Karpowicz Foundation. The disc contains, in addition to original compositions, a number of surprising musical reinterpretations (including Mmm Murder or Przysiadalność). The recordings feature guest appearances by legendary trumpeter Antoni Ziut Gralak and legendary actress and Germanist Julia Kaminska. The album is promoted by the singles Hotel Savoy and It's the Same Wind. The album, Seven Eyes, received a Top Note from JazzPRESS magazine and was one of the five albums of the year 2017 according to Playboy magazine.



A third album exists in the nebula and may someday materialize.
