DESCRIPTION
It is already a tradition that October is Women's Month at the Philharmonic. On this occasion, a special symphonic concert could not be missed either. The Golden Hall will feature a symphony by one of the most famous composers of the 19th century, with close ties to Szczecin - Emilie Mayer, but we will also hear works by Mieczyslaw Wajnberg and Boleslaw Szabelski. On stage we will host two outstanding artists: Matilda Llyod and Marta Kluczynska.

As part of the FilHERmonia series - or Women's Month at the Philharmonic - we will recall Emilie Mayer's Symphony No. 1. Called "Beethoven in a skirt" during her lifetime, Mayer was the most creative and famous composer of her time. For Szczecin, she is all the more important because she was associated with our city for many years. It was here that she learned the art of composition from Carl Loewe himself. She left behind an impressive legacy, which includes eight symphonies, a piano concerto, fifteen overtures, an opera and numerous chamber works. Despite the high quality of the music she created, her compositions were forgotten after her death, and today are known only to a small circle of specialists. We decided not only to make them heard again by the world, but also to make them sound again in Szczecin and for the people of Szczecin. Symphony No. 1 is a work faithful to classical models, but also full of musical imagination and demonstration of compositional talent. The premiere of the work took place in our city, in 1847.
In the concert by Mieczyslaw Wajnberg, the solo part will be performed by Matilda Llyod - one of the world's most sought-after young trumpeters, recording for the prestigious Chandos label. The artist's latest album was hailed by BBC Music Magazine as its album of the month (June 2023), and with nominations from Barbican Centre London and Konserthuset Stockholm, Llyod was named a rising star by the European Concert Hall Organization (ECHO). In the 2024/25 season, she will perform on Europe's most prestigious stages.

The Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, meanwhile, will be conducted by Marta Kluczynska, a maestro with a wide repertoire of opera, ballet and symphonic works.
