UTWORY
Leszek Możdżer - Psalms of David

DESCRIPTION
Leszek Możdżer, one of Poland's most important jazz musicians, will come to Szczecin to present, together with the Choir of the Maritime University of Technology and special guests, his original interpretation of the Old Testament Psalms of David.

The theme of the psalms was first taken up by the artist back in the early 21st century. From Magdalena Sasin's account for "Gazeta Wyborcza" in 2002, we learn that Możdżer's Psalms do not resemble sacred music known on a daily basis. It is difficult to define the style of this music. They have something from jazz - understatement and unfettered improvisation, from liturgical music - spiritual concentration, even something from classical music - despite all the freedom, attention to form. It also brings to mind pagan ritual music, with tremendous energy and power that once helped worship powerful deities.

Leszek Możdżer is a world-class pianist. He became famous for his improvisations on Chopin themes. The music world has recognized his unrivaled technique, imagination, multithreaded interpretations and lyrical emotionality. The artist has collaborated with some of the most important jazz artists from home and abroad, has a discography of more than a hundred titles, and, among other things, participated in the jass revolution of the 1990s.

During the November concert in the Golden Hall of the Philharmonic, the artist will not perform alone. He will be accompanied by the Choir of the Maritime University of Technology, conducted by Sylwia Fabiańczyk-Makuch - an award-winning ensemble that represents Szczecin and Poland on the world's biggest stages. The group is also the creator of the authorial project Common Sounds, combining choral music with other musical genres, as part of which it appears on stage alongside outstanding artists and ensembles from around the world. This time they will perform together on the stage of the Szczecin Philharmonic with Leszek Możdżer.

The artists will be supported by great instrumentalists: Olo Walicki (bass guitar), Patrycja Betlej (drums), Maciej Sikała (saxophone). All this as part of a new concert series in our concert season - Guests at the Philharmonic.
