A regional geography in caricatures and texts by Matthias Kneip and Andrzej Mleczeko.
In his new book, Matthias Kneip and the best-known Polish caricaturist Andrzej Mleczko present a humorous study of Poland. For years, Mleczko has been making fun of his country's everyday political and social life in his pictures. Politics, the church and environmental protection are addressed as well as the mental idiosyncrasies of our eastern neighbors. However, the humorous texts by Matthias Kneip accompanying the pictures reveal that there is more to Mleczko's caricatures than just daily political commentary. A verbal and visual delight for anyone who wants to take an entertaining look at the neighboring country. With a wink, of course!
Matthias Kneip, born in Regensburg in 1969, studied German, Eastern Slavic Studies and Political Science at the University of Regensburg. Matthias Kneip has been a research assistant at the German Poland Institute in Darmstadt since 2000 and also works as a writer, publicist and Poland consultant. His reports on Poland are published by Spiegel-Online, among others. Kneip has received numerous awards for his work, including the Silesia Culture Prize of the state of Lower Saxony in 2011 and the Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland in 2012.
