The PRUSSIAN CHAMBER ORCHESTRA (PKO)
The Prussian Chamber Orchestra (PKO) was founded in 1994 as a young, innovative and flexible ensemble. The ensemble has its home in Prenzlau, in the heart of the Uckermark.
Just as the Uckermark sees itself as an antithesis to the metropolis of Berlin, the PKO sees itself as an agile and flexible counterpart to the region's large orchestras.
The orchestra is a source of ideas and a cultural anchor point in the Uckermark and the state of Brandenburg. In addition to the three concert series, new concert formats are regularly designed and tried out. For example, "Klassik in Dorfkirchen", the "Bebersee Festival", "Come together", "Slam & Music" and the "Kinder- und Generationenoper" set new cultural accents in the region.
Conductor and choirmaster Jürgen Bischof has been Managing Director of the orchestra's sponsor, the Uckermärkische Kulturagentur, since the very beginning.
At the start of the 2019/2020 season, Jürgen Bruns took over the artistic direction as Music Director and Chief Conductor of the ensemble.
The Prussian Chamber Orchestra is at home on international stages, regularly produces CDs and works regularly with broadcasters such as rbb and Deutschlandfunk Kultur.
The twelve permanently employed musicians from six nations who form the core of the ensemble are a dozen soloists who have dedicated themselves to music together and perform at the highest level with an enormous stylistic diversity.
For the repertoire with larger ensembles, the orchestra works together with a permanent core of freelance musicians.
In addition to the current concert programs, the PKO has increasingly taken on the task of promoting children and young people in daycare centers and schools, passing on experience in workshops, gaining new venues and constantly expanding the scope of its work.
