On 12 June 2025, during the international Velo-city conference in Gdansk, the Polish Tourist Organisation submitted an official application to the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF) for the creation of the National EuroVelo Coordination Centre (NECC). It is a breakthrough moment for the development of cycling tourism in Poland and an important step towards full integration into the European network of cycling routes.

The National EuroVelo Coordination Centre (NECC) will operate within the structures of the Polish Tourist Organisation, which will take the role of the leader of the project. The Centre will be responsible for co-ordination of the development of the EuroVelo long-distance cycling routes at the national level, co-operation with regional and international partners and promotion of the routes in Poland and abroad.

Efforts to establish a NECC in Poland have a history. The Cycling Mobility Team operating at the Union of Voivodeships of the Republic of Poland has been working for years for the establishment of the centre. It is thanks to their consistent efforts and commitment that a model of cooperation was developed, resulting in the signing of an agreement between the PTO and the ZWRP in February 2025. This document defined the framework of cooperation and entrusted the PTO with the role of a partner capable of running and developing a centre with a national scope.

EuroVelo is a network of 17 long-distance cycling routes which connect the whole continent and cover over 90,000 kilometres. Poland is a part of this network, through the country run e.g. EuroVelo 10 (Baltic Route), EuroVelo 9 (Amber Route) or EuroVelo 13 (Iron Curtain Route). Their growing importance for tourism, sustainable transport and the promotion of regions requires a coherent approach and coordination of activities at national level - a function that the NECC aims to fulfil.

The submission of the application to the European Cyclists' Federation is another milestone in the process of establishing the EuroVelo National Coordination Centre. In case of a positive decision of the ECF, Poland will officially join the group of countries, which have structures recognised as the European standard in management and promotion of EuroVelo cycling routes.
