The promenade along Castle Lake consists of two sections, separated from Orla Street by a peninsula. The first section of the promenade begins at the lakeside square on Kilińszczaków Street, not far from the fountain installed on the lake. It runs alongside the gardens belonging to the properties on that street, under the old trees lining the lake’s shore. In the summer, you can sometimes see sailboats gliding majestically across the water here, and you can always count on spotting mallards. This section of the promenade ends at a tiny park on Pocztowa Street. The city’s oldest and largest linden tree, a natural monument, once stood here, but it was unfortunately toppled by a storm a few years ago. To reach the second part of the promenade, head toward Sądowa Street, passing several interesting historic sites—the “notary’s office,” a hunting villa with intriguing decorative details; a school building with a beautiful portal and a sundial on its facade; and the Neo-Gothic Church of St. Anthony. At the intersection of Sądowa and Orla Streets, another lakeside square comes into view, with a section set up as a playground for children. This is where the second, much longer section of the promenade begins. This cove is home to swans, mallards, and coots—their numbers increase significantly during the winter. The promenade runs along the shore of Lake Zamkowe all the way to the district of Wałcz known as Dolne Miasto. A stroll down this shaded path, with its beautiful view of the vast lake, can be a real pleasure, especially on hot days.
