The bison has become a symbol of the municipality and the town of Mirosławiec, especially of tourist attractions in the area. Bisons appeared in the area of the Wałcz Lake District in 1980. A modest beginning of 'a career of the bison' in these areas was a small free herd from the Białowieża Forest. Eight individuals, i.e. four cows and four bulls were released in the woods of the Wałcz Forest District. Over the years, they roamed through local woods and fields, reaching also the Mirosławiec Inspectorate. After years it turned out that stay mostly near Piecnik, Jamienek, Toporzyk, Próchnowo and Marcinkowice. The herd was systematically growing in numbers, arousing interest in both residents of the Lake District and tourists, hence a project to create opportunities for people to observe these animals while preserving peaceful existence of the flock. The project was called 'Securing the bison population in the north - western Poland from the tourist pressure.' As a part of this project, the Regional Centre of the Bison, among others, was created in the Community Centre in Mirosławiec. You can find there large banners with photographs of local bison. Moreover, the activities carried out by the RCB are to disseminate knowledge about bison, their habits and, above all, the rules, safe for both parties, of how to observe these animals. The Regional Centre of the Bison organises such events as the Festival of the Bison, thematic scientific conferences, knowledge contests, art competitions.
