• Address: Jagiellońska 9, 74-500 Chojna

The building at what is now 9 Jagiellońska Street was erected at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries—unfortunately, due to a lack of documentation from before 1945, it is difficult to determine the exact date of the building’s construction. The building was designed on an L-shaped plan. The western section of the building constitutes its main part, while the eastern section is an outbuilding. The building’s facade lacks architectural detail. The facade is divided into nine axes, with a false risalit in the central section. Balconies are located on the second and third stories. The upper parts of the third-story window openings are decorated with triangles. The door and window frames have not survived to the present day.

It is not known who designed the tenement house or who owned the building before the outbreak of World War II. After 1945, the ground-floor spaces of the building housed, among others, a barbershop, a store, a restaurant, a bank, and the School of Economics. Until 1954, Russians occupied the upper floors. Currently, the building contains 16 apartments (including the outbuilding).

No major renovation work has been carried out on the building since 1945. In 1996, the building’s original slate roof was replaced with sheet metal, and in the early 21st century, the facade was renovated.

The pre-war buildings in Chojna were largely destroyed during the fighting in 1945. The building was listed as a historic monument as one of the few examples of architecture from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is similar to other urban buildings constructed in Pomerania and Brandenburg between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The tenement house at 9 Jagiellońska Street was added to the provincial list of historic monuments in June 1997.
