The defensive walls were built in the fourteenth century, but only a small section has survived to the present day. They are made of granite pebbles and bricks. The best-preserved fragment of the walls is variable in height up to 3 m and thickness from 1-1.5 m. There are visible traces of reconstruction, as several passages were carved in it in the 19th century.
In 1559, as a result of a fire in the city, some of the walls were destroyed. In the second half of the 19th century, most of it was collapsed. After World War II, the walls were renovated many times. In the 60's they were lowered. In the 1980s, semicircular arcades were pierced in the wall. The tops of the fortifications were secured with a concrete pin.
Their current condition is assessed as good. The remains stretch along the promenade.
