Post Office Building

The Maszewo post office is housed in a distinctive, two-story red-brick building. The entrance, accessed via a stone staircase, is located on Wojska Polskiego Street; Kościuszki Street runs along the building’s northwest wall, and on the southeast side, the building adjoins a neighboring tenement house.

The building was constructed in the second half of the 19th century as a hotel and served that purpose until the end of the war. In the postwar period, it was designated for use by Poczta Polska (the Polish Post) and continues to serve residents in this capacity to this day. The ground floor of the building houses the post office offices, while the upper floor has been converted into private apartments.

The ornate facade sets the post office apart from the tenement houses surrounding the market square. The entrance, with a canopy supported by two columns, also catches the eye. Above it is a balcony offering a view of City Hall, the market square, and the city’s main street (Wojska Polskiego Street). The building is covered by a gable roof with a single dormer in the center, above the entrance. The building is in very good condition; however, it is not accessible to people with disabilities (which could compromise the integrity of the historic structure).
