The Magnetic Hill is a place in the Wałcz region where the laws of physics seem to operate differently—spilled water flows uphill, a bottle placed on the road rolls quickly uphill, and a car, even with its engine off, drives quickly—also uphill. The larger and heavier the car, the faster it goes. There are also reports of sudden, albeit brief, loss of consciousness; some people complain of severe headaches, while for others, whatever ailments they arrived in Strączno with subside—at least for the duration of their stay in the vicinity of the hill. One thing is certain, however: you must be careful with your cars here—they may start moving on their own and, picking up speed, run away from their owners, not always staying on the road... Quite a few people have already had to run after their vehicles.
There are various hypotheses attempting to explain this phenomenon. There is also a legend about this mysterious place. Supposedly, treasures are hidden in a secret underground chamber beneath the hill. The entrance to it is said to have opened once a year, on Midsummer’s Night. Many years ago, a poor widow, having set out on a search with her young son, discovered the entrance to the treasure chamber. Dazed by the wealth she found there, she tried to carry out as much gold, precious stones, and other valuables as possible. In her excitement and greed, she forgot about her little son, whom she had sat down next to a pile of gold coins so he wouldn’t disturb her while she packed the treasures. It wasn’t until she got home that she remembered the little one; she rushed back into the forest like a madwoman, but she couldn’t find the entrance to the treasure chamber. The treasures no longer brought her joy; she nearly went mad with despair. Day and night, she wandered the area searching for the entrance. She found it a year later, on the next Midsummer’s Night. She recovered her child, but cursed the cruel hill, where strange things have been happening ever since.
